Not quite. While “natural” fragrance oils may begin with plant-based materials, they are modified in a lab to isolate, enhance, or standardize specific scent compounds. While not always synthetic in origin, they are chemically altered and often include a mix of natural and synthetic components, including “nature-identical” aroma chemicals created to mimic plant scents.
It is also important to note that many “natural” fragrance oils contain synthetic compounds, despite being marketed as plant-based. Phrases like “infused with essential oils” are often used to make products appear more natural than they truly are. In most cases, these fragrances are lab-made, with only a small amount of essential oil added for marketing purposes.
They are not the same as pure essential oils or whole plant extracts.
At Wndrmade, we craft our fragrances using only pure essential oils and botanical extracts. We never use fragrance oils, whether synthetic or labeled as “natural.”
This commitment began as a personal one. After a health diagnosis, our co-founder Alice developed a heightened sensitivity to synthetic fragrance, often experiencing migraines and nausea from exposure. That experience inspired us to create Wndrmade as a truly natural alternative for those who want to avoid synthetic fragrance and appreciate the depth and beauty of real botanical ingredients. Our goal is to create plant-based fragrances that are intentional, complex, and genuinely rooted in nature.
